FUEL POLISHING

Fuel Polishing from Fuelling Technology

Fuelling Technology understand how important it is for critical facilities to have continuity of operation, and impurities in the fuel supply can jeopardise that. We can help by pumping out contaminated fuel, removing all of the sludge and microbes, and then re-circulating it back into the tank. Contact us today and let our experienced team keep your diesel fuel and tanks working at optimum efficiency.

M300 Filtration/Polisher

The M300 Filtration/Polisher is designed to circulate and clean stored diesel fuel at critical facilities, which is an important aspect of emergency power reliability: Hospitals and data centres store increasing amounts of fuel onsite to assure continuity of operation, and this fuel has low turnover in operation.
  • As diesel fuel ages, particulates form which can increase the wear on generator engine parts
  • Fuel storage tanks accumulate water through condensation, and this water can encourage bacterial growth
  • Newer diesel engines with improved emissions technology require higher purity fuel to prolong engine life
The M300 Filtration/Polisher has an innovative compact design, resulting in a minimal footprint for filtration/polishing of tanks from 500 to 50,000 gallons capacity.

The mechanical design is based on Viking pumps and Racor filters and is complete with strainers, check valves, ball, valves, pressure/vacuum gauges and relief valves. The unit is mounted on an integral containment with leak detection monitoring.

The Filtration/Polisher includes a motor starter panel, or optional VFD drive, with disconnect switch. The OmniPlex Controller provides filtration/polisher operation and monitoring with HOA switches and an emergency stop.

Mobile Fuel Cleaning

Why do I need to re-circulate my fuel?

The polishing system circulates and cleans fuel by pumping it from the tank, processing it through the cleaning unit and back into the tank. The filters in the unit remove sludge along with other organic/in-organic impurities and water in a continuous process until all contaminants are removed. This cleans the tank and its contents at the same time.

Diesel engines depend on two vital ingredients: air with sufficient oxygen content and clean, uncontaminated fuel. Stored diesel deteriorates over time. Fuel companies only guarantee their fuel to remain within the original specification for three to six months when in bulk storage. That’s because so called ‘middle distillate’ fuels, including modern low sulphur versions, are inherently unstable.

Over time the formation of tank sludge is virtually inevitable, and if water is allowed to collect in the tank through condensation then bacterial contamination is almost certain to occur. If this fuel is not processed, it can easily clog fuel filters and generators, leaving your business or building vulnerable.

In brief, cleaning your fuel system will, reduce costs and help customers with their environmental compliance - clean fuel improves filtration, combustibility and stability, lowers emissions and extends component life.
  • Contaminated fuel inside storage tanks can cause pump or vehicle filters to block, in some cases resulting in hefty repair bills
  • These issues are caused by microbial contamination (often known as diesel bugs, which are micro-organisms that grow on water present in fuel). Biofuel is hygroscopic (attracts water)
  • The latest fuels contain a % of biofuel (up to 7%) and provide an ideal breeding ground for these bugs
  • Even a small % of biofuels acts as a detergent cleaning the inside of storage tanks and pipework, allowing for dirt/sludge to be sucked up by pumps, blocking filters. The sludge also contributes to poor emissions (seen as black exhaust smoke)
  • Over time these microbes/bugs grow into large colony forming units (CFU's) which get sucked into fuel lines blocking filters
  • Storage tanks, particularly those with low usage, require a system to keep microbes/bugs dormant by re-circulating the fuel to ensure an efficient microbial treatment

Symptoms in the tank:

  • Dark-coloured fuel
  • Slimy mass in tanks and filters
  • Water in fuel
  • Sediments
  • Unusual odour
  • Fuel system fouling
  • Unexplained contamination
